Parsippany Third DWI Lawyer
DWI Third Offenses in New Jersey
In the state of New Jersey, it is against the law to drink and drive or operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or any substance that impairs the ability to drive safely. Anyone with prior DWI convictions likely knows that the penalties can be substantial. They are even more so for a third DWI offense. If you are at risk of serious consequences for a guilty verdict, contact a Parsippany DWI attorney who can help defend your rights at each step.
At The Law Offices of Christopher G. Porreca, P.C., my firm has a vast understanding of the many aspects of criminal law and has defended numerous multiple offense DWI cases. I was chosen for the Thomson Reuters' list of Super Lawyers® "Rising Stars" in New Jersey for lawyers under 40 from 2006 to 2011. My goal is to provide an aggressive defense and help clients achieve the most favorable outcome in their drunk driving cases.
Third DWI Penalties
In comparison to a second conviction, the punishments for a third conviction are more severe financially and in other ways. For a third DWI, one can expect:
- Minimum of 180 day sentence in county jail or workhouse
- Fines up to $1,000
- Lose driver's license for eight years
- Installation of ignition interlock device (IID) for between two and four years following restoration of driving privileges (IID installation is required both during and after suspension)
- Mandatory drug or alcohol programs
- Automobile insurance surcharge of $1,500 for 3 years
In some instances, the participation in drug or alcohol programs can reduce the sentencing. The offender must apply to the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission in order to have a license reinstated. The cost of a DWI conviction is not just financial. It can cost a job or a chance to seek certain types of employment, advancement in a career, and affect other areas of life and relationships. I work hard for my clients, providing thorough representation and the commitment to defending their rights during the DWI process.
