I recently represented a client in Saddle Brook Municpal Court on an excessive speeding case. He was going 90 mph in a 55 mph zone: 35 mph over the limit!!
Under New Jersey law, any violation of 30 mph or more carries with it five MVC points. The real problem with hitting those speeds is that the judge will usually suspend the defendants New Jersey driving privileges. Naturally, this can create a real problem for the vast majority of New Jersey residents, as public transportation is not readily available. Some judges will accept community service in lieu of any license suspension.
If you are charged with speeding in the top half of the state, you need a Northern New Jersey criminal defense attorney to defend you. I can try to get the speed reduced, thus lowering the number of points that you will receive on your license. Depending on the speed charged, I may even be able to get the state to offer a no-point violation.
